19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
